NUT News 16: THE CAMPAIGNING UNION
On the basis of members' views and the current economic uncertainty, the
NUT National Executive has decided against committing members to further
strike action. The NUT will, however, continue to work together with
other unions to further the TUC campaign to halt the decline in public
sector pay.

Early Day Motion on teachers' pay
The Early Day Motion which the NUT submitted on teachers pay has now been signed by 102 MPs. This is a high number for a motion of this type. In context, of the 2,474 Early Day Motions tabled so far during the current parliamentary session only 170 have received more signatures.

The removal of trade union rights has contributed to an increase in inequality over the last 25 years. The NUT is opposed to the establishment of Trust schools. We believe that schools are best able to meet the needs of their communities when they remain as Community schools and are supported by local authorities. The NUT has published materials for parents, school governors and teachers to use wherever trust school status is proposed.
